Taj Mahal Quartzite is a natural white-and-beige quartzite quarried in Brazil, prized for its close resemblance to Calacatta marble combined with the hardness and scratch resistance of granite. At KML Worktops, it’s supplied in 20mm and 30mm slabs with a polished, honed or leather finish, fabricated in-house and fitted across London, Essex, Surrey and Kent.
As a natural quartzite, Taj Mahal is harder than marble and most granites, offering strong resistance to knife scratches and everyday kitchen use. It’s more heat-tolerant than resin-based quartz worktops, and being low-porosity, it resists staining better than marble. However, we still recommend a breathable stone sealant applied at installation and reapplied periodically, and wiping up acidic spills (wine, citrus, vinegar) promptly.
The base tone runs from soft white to warm cream, with grey-beige movement that reads as veining rather than speckling, this is what gives it the Calacatta-like look buyers search for. Because it’s a natural quartzite rather than a printed or engineered surface, veining intensity and background tone vary slab to slab, so we always recommend viewing your actual slab (or at least a same-batch sample) before fabrication.
We template on-site using digital measuring tools, then cut, polish and finish every Taj Mahal Quartzite slab at our own Wembley workshop rather than outsourcing, so cut-outs for sinks, hobs and drainage grooves are done to measure rather than to a generic template. Typical turnaround from template to fitted worktop is 7–14 days depending on finish and current workload.
Clean with warm water and a pH-neutral stone soap also avoid bleach, ammonia-based cleaners and abrasive pads. Use a chopping board and trivets, while harder than marble, Taj Mahal can still be marked by direct blade contact or very high heat. We recommend resealing every 12–18 months to maintain stain resistance.
No, some suppliers use the two names interchangeably for marketing reasons, but geologically it is a quartzite (metamorphosed sandstone rich in quartz), not a true granite. It performs similarly to granite in terms of hardness.
It is more stain-resistant than marble, but it is still a natural, low-porosity stone rather than a fully non-porous engineered surface, so we recommend sealing it and wiping up spills, especially oil, wine and citrus promptly.
Yes, it has good heat resistance for a natural stone and tolerates direct contact with warm pans better than resin-based quartz, though we still recommend trivets for very hot cookware to protect the finish.
We supply Taj Mahal Quartzite in 20mm and 30mm. 20mm suits contemporary, slimline designs; 30mm gives a more substantial, traditional edge.
Pricing depends on slab quality, thickness, finish and the complexity of your layout (islands, cut-outs, upstands). Request a free quote and we'll price your exact kitchen plan.
Yes, undermount, inset and Belfast sink cut-outs, plus hob cut-outs, drainage grooves and tap holes, are all done in-house to your appliance specification.
